Things with Moonshine have been progressing nicely for the most part. He has been through the Pre-Kindergarten and the Kindergarten checklist and is moving right along in his training schedule. He is a confident boy who is very sure of himself, until he isn’t. He is learning to turn to me for confidence and to answer questions.
Our first two rides were good foundational steps, but the 3rd ride ended abruptly as I found a hole in our work in the area of desensitization around his neck. I had jokingly said to his owners that due to his personality, I thought all would go well until his third ride as his first answer to new situations is “YES!”, his second answer is “Are you sure about this?”, then his third response is “I’m outta here, we can talk about this later!” Then he usually comes around and seems okay with things.
I also have discovered that he has a blind spot on his left eyeball due to an old injury where he was poked in the eye with barbwire. You can see this with the grey square at about 12:00 on his eyeball.
This should not effect his overall performance in the long run, has proven to be something that needs a little extra time and consideration during the formative parts of training
I am pleased with where we are and I am looking forward to our work together over the next several months!
Thanks again to his family, the Kohr’s for loaning him to me for this fun and exciting event!
