Sorry for the delayed Blogging on my new horse! We have had such a busy spring here at AHA. I am going to finally post the blogs I had written up until now to catch you up!
I am sure you have heard, “Horses are like potato chips, you can’t have just one.” Well in my case 5 apparently isn’t enough either! On April 7, 2015, I agreed to take on one more personal horse, a big flea-bitten grey I call Orion O’Brian! I needed another horse like I needed a hole in the head, but I had a feeling about this one. Since I am a professional in the horse business, I will justify it in saying he will add to the program at Aiken Horsemanship Academy!
Getting to know a new horse is always a process. I don’t have much history on this guy except he is coming back from a bad quarter crack and has exhibited intimidating behaviors like rearing. He was bought to be an eventer, but was a handfull on cross country, so he was sent to the jumper world. Apparently he started out well, but then began struggling. He was missing his lead changes and had started to refuse some jumps. The owner decided to stop training and rehome him to me. LUCKY ME!
The first thing I noticed about him was his eye. It just seemed like he wasn’t home. No connection to people, no real interest. I decided to give him a day or two to settle in…more soon!
