Balance

You may remember my focus words for the year are Balance and Fun. I work on these for both my horses life and my life in general.

I was reviewing the pictures from Laurie Fix of the last event and found it funny that she would include the following photo:

After looking at it a minute, I thought BALANCE!

This photo illustrates perfectly what I am talking about when I teach people to mount their horse with balance. You can see with my right hand I am pulling down on the saddle to counter balance my weight as I get on. My hips are close in and I am bent over to keep all my weight balanced on the back of the horse. This is followed by my sitting down softly in the saddle.

Balance is a funny thing. It seems we don’t think about it until we don’t have it. Or at least that is how it seems for me. Balance is more than physical, it is mental and emotional. I have been working on being mindful of this and find that sometimes just slowing down, breathing and asking myself do I feel in balance helps.

As for fun, I worked on that yesterday by trying a new eating adventure…DimSum.

It was a fascinating experience and very yummy!

I hope you are working on your focus words for this year. Leave a comment and let me know how you are doing!

I did it! Ozzie and I published!

I did it!  I finally published the story of Ozzie, the horse that changed everything for me!  Ozzie was with me for more than 25 years and is the reason I study horsemanship!  Many of you have met Ozzie, who passed away a year ago.  But few of you know about our early days together.  Ozzie was a challenging horse with a big personality, and I was madly in love with him, even though he was not suitable for me at all.  He would push me and cause chaos wherever he went in his early days.  Thanks to him, I sought out help from a friend who lead me to the path of horsemanship!  And I have never looked back! Don’t forget to get your copy on Amazon.com.
