For the past 10 weeks I have been working daily or near-daily with a 4 year old pony mare, Bali. While her owner was away competing at the Pony Driving World Championships in Slovenia, Bali came to Dragonfly Farm to have her young horse foundation started. She needed to learn how to lead, lunge, ground drive, clip, bathe, be ridden walk/trot/canter and trail ride, and improve her trailer loading, catching, tying, and generally handling skills. We accomplished all of those goals with her and it was very rewarding to watch her morph from uncertain and uneducated but keen into confident, curious, and willing in most situations.
Bali went home this week and her owner was pleased enough with her improvement to send in another pony mare, Ellie for some ground work and general experience and exposure. I’m looking forward to getting to know Ellie. I can already tell that she has a very different personality from her “sister” Bali!
