“Thanks for Nothing”
-this is negative in our world, but actually truly appreciated from the perspective of the horse. Being human, it is often easy to forget that a reward for the horse is doing nothing, without pressure or expectation, hanging out herd-style, while managing our space.
Gratitude is everything, in horses and life. A moment of gratitude can quickly change a situation. And having the right attitude makes all the difference.
I was riding my horse Dezi the other day, working on some advanced exercises in self carriage. I murmured “thank you” to Dezi as I rode past a friend in the arena. She piped up and said, “sure doesn’t sound like you are grateful…” WOW, was she ever right! I was just offering a bit of sarcastic gratitude in hopes that Dezi would offer more and I was busted! Gratefully so, because I realized I had the wrong attitude, and as I laughed, sincerely apologized to Dezi and went back to work, all of the sudden he changed! He was more responsive and willing. It is good to be in the company of those who get this work on a deeper level, those who value the qualities that make our relationships with our horses great!
So I was moved to stop, take a minute to write and thank you. It has been my pleasure to share my horsemanship life with you. Thank you for supporting Helpful Horsemanship, Inc., for reading my blog & newsletter, for coming to my clinics, courses, lessons and more. Thanks for being inspired by my teachings and putting it to work with your horse, and sharing the results! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving with safe travels.
“Thanks for Everything!”
All my Best!
