At the beginning of 2011, I selected two words to focus on in regards to improving my horsemanship, therefore my life. These two words were: Timing And Humor. As for timing, I am terrible with time in general. I often speak from enthusiasm instead of appropriate timing, I tend to act then consider the time implications, and my horses often give me feedback that my timing just isn’t quite right. And, as many of you know, I am a bit of a serious, focused person in many areas of my life, so humor seemed like a great idea. In trying to come up with a way to work on these two words, I decided to take a juggling class. I was so impressed by my instructor, he made it look so simple and he had so much fun juggling anything he could get his hands on! Plus it was really fun to watch and give it a try!
Somewhere along the way I came up with the idea to juggle on horseback. I reached this goal early on. So then I added, juggling with my horse’s front feet on the pedestal.
From there, I decided to take it one step further and juggle standing on my horses back. (Maybe a future in the circus??)
I broke it down in steps and below is the result. It feels really good to have made progress on both of my words, Timing and Humor. As 2011 comes to a close, I am happy to have focused on these words and feel my horses (and my staff) enjoyed the benefits! With 2012 arriving tomorrow, I will shift my focus to my new words: Balance and Fun! (with a side dish of Joy!) What will be your words of focus for the year??
